Job
Summary
The Retail Store Manager is responsible for implementing
the firm's retail marketing and sales plans, while ensuring
the efficient operation of all sales, operating and administrative
functions within the assigned retail location. Authority
in this position is open and freedom to act is limited
only by approved policies, budgets and procedures under
the direction of the Retail Manager.
A.
Job Contents
The Store Manager assumes the following responsibilities,
while manager if required may assign other tasks.
Supervisory
Tasks
Supervises employees engaged in sales work, cleaning and
rearranging merchandise, decorating, pricing, taking of
inventories and keeping operating records.
Responsible for an efficient staffing of the sales clerks
at the counters, Customer Service Desk (if applicable)
and various store sections, by proper assignments of duties
to sales clerks while respecting break periods, work hours
and vacations.
Ensures compliance of employees with established security,
sales and record keeping procedures and practices
Trains, supervises, advises and controls store employees.
Encourage employee advancement if the employee's skills
and the organization structure allows it; may be called
upon for assistance in preparing or executing training
session for sales clerks on store policies, procedures,
job duties, customer service.
Plans
and conducts weekly sales meetings for staff to discuss
latest sales techniques, new products, overall performance
and other topics (s) he or Retail Manager think appropriate
to discuss in order to promote high moral team spirit
and company mindedness.
Supervises
sales clerks, performs work of subordinates as needed
and assists in completing difficult sales.
Plans store layout of fixtures, merchandise and displays
with Retail Manager, taking into account special and seasonal
promotions as well as store safety and security measures;
inspects merchandise to ensure it is correctly priced
and displayed.
Maintains
all safety and security policies of the Company, including
locking and securing of Bookstore at closing time, cash
volume in the cash registers and cash deposits in store
safe.
Communicates
and upholds all company policies, rules and regulations,
while maintains a productive and pleasant customer and
working environment, compliments sales clerks for achieving
same and initiates disciplinary action where needed.
Answers customer's complaints or inquiries, examines returned
merchandise, and resolves customer's problems to restore
and promote good public relations; makes decisions on
adjustments, refunds, customer checks and customer service,
etc., as required.
Coordinates
and supervises store housekeeping, maintenance and repair.
Maintains physical inventory as required.
Assumes general responsibility for the inventory of the
store, while insufficient control on stock movements resulting
to a pilferage of more than 3% may be cause for termination.
Administrative
Tasks
Handles administrative duties, including staff schedules,
sales reports, personnel report, warnings, etc.
Prepares the employee's yearly Appraisal Reports and conducts
evaluation meeting after input from Retail Manager and
Human Resources Department.
Formulates
pricing policies on merchandise with Retail Manager (and
Purchasing Department?) according to requirements for
profitability of store operations
Coordinates
store's sales promotion activities and campaigns, in coordination
with Retail Manager and according to established budgets;
Keeps
abreast of developments in retail sales area, by studying
relevant catalogs, trade journals, sales analysis and
all merchandising and sales materials; initiates suggestions
for improvement of the business.

Requirements
To perform this job successfully, the Store Manager must
be able to perform each of the above tasks satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of the
knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education
and/or Experience
Vocational training in retail sales or an equivalent combination
of education and experience. Must have a good working
knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet and inventory
control software. Experience in sales/retail is required
and must have knowledge of office supply products and
applications; proven ability to stock, merchandise, advertise,
and maintain store's offerings; knowledge of management
principles, including personnel supervision and willingness
and ability to make difficult decisions under pressure.
Language
Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents in English and
Dutch, such as order forms and procedure manuals. Ability
to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to
speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
of organization. Verbal command of Spanish language is
useful.
Reasoning
Skills
Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret
a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
diagram, or schedule form.
C.
Additional Conditions
Working Hours 44 hours per week, 6 days a week, while
accepting a standby assignment.
Training
Must be willing to follow courses (internal or external,
local or abroad on a variety of sales/retail related topics
as well as internal computer software training.

Code
The Store Manager has to comply with the company dress
code.
